I know curiosity killed the cat, but I have at least 5 more lives left. The 0 means it's a reissue of a 1960 (like my LP special), the 6 means 2006 and the 5872 means it was the 5872nd guitar (all models) that Gibson built in the custom shop that year. I was just curious as to how anyone can tell if a 2013 was made 'at the end of the 2013 model run' without any sort of definitive estimate on the quantity of guitars made. But then I don't see nearly as much as some of you do.Дoes any of this matter? Nope. I've never sen anything remotely that high. Which would then mean there should be some R9s with serial numbers like 934500. I read a post by 'DANELECTRO' where he estimates 3000-5000 reissues a year. I don't know where the heck that puts it in the run since I have no idea how many were made. The вЂMade in USAвЂ™ sign at the back of the headstock is throwing me off.

My serial number is 931163 which would state that it's the 1163rd 59 reissue built. 'the end of the 2013 run.' How is it possible to know when a guitar was made? Granted, if the number is 9 3065 then it's safe to assume that it was made fairly early in the run, especially if other 59 reissues are included in that total. If it's a 2013, the first digit will be 1, the fifth digit will be 3. The second digit can only be 0,1,2, or 3. The three digits after the first digit can never all be 0. The last three digits can never all be zero. The original 59 (serial number 9-1918) is. There are too many numbers in that serial number.

Secondly, there is loose banter about models made 'early in the run' vs. This is the sixth instrument released from the Collectors Series guitars: the 1959 Les Paul nicknamed The One. Is this correct? I seem to remember trusting the source on this one, though again I cannot recall who had said it. So every 59 reissue, regardless of the model, is lumped in to that count. I have read in this forum a few places (though I can't recall where specifically) that the last 4 digits state the amount of 59 reissues made during the year (in the case of a serial number starting with 9).

This is because wood produces a full and rich sound. Its the Custom Shop numbering that gibson so very weird. Most of these electric guitars have a body that is composed of solid wood. I know that the serial number means the first digit denotes the model reissue, the 2nd digit is the year the model was made, and the last 3 or 4 digits note the chronological place in the run for the year.ДЄll well and good. And to paul matters worse, gibson documentation of these out of normal format numbers serial lacking to say the least. I was cleaning up my 13 R9 and was noticing the serial number.
